Recognizing Frederick County's Craft Beer

Today is National Drink Beer Day so we're recognizing the tremendous growth in Frederick County's craft beer industry.

Three more breweries are set to open within the next few months:RockWell Brewery LLC at 880 N. East Street in Thurmont, Attaboy Beer at 400 Sagner Ave in Frederick this winter, and Barnwerk is taking over the flagship Bank of America building on the town square in Thurmont.

Our office continues to receive record numbers of new brewery inquiries daily. What's driving the trend? The number of craft breweries is on the rise in Maryland and across the country, representing 12% of the market share now of the overall beer industry.

One job at a craft brewery will create an additional 45 jobs in other industries, such as packaging, distribution and agriculture, according to Business Climate.

It doesn't hurt that Frederick County is home to the largest craft beer producer in the state - Flying Dog Brewery, the Maryland Craft Beer Festival each year and Matador Network recently named Frederick among the top 17 Best Cities in the WORLD for Craft Beer. We were also the first in the state to license a farm brewery Milkhouse Brewery at Stillpoint Farm.

Its a great time to be a beer lover in Frederick County. Cheers!
